[blindlaw] Oral advocacy

First, I concur with everything Dan has said on the point. It may be
possible for someone who can use large print to do much the same thing
or at least to have some note cards with primary points and perhaps even
secondary points. I must admit though that in most cases, I truly doubt
this to be the case. Also, I think most technology fails, whether it
would be closed circuit television or taking note takers, lap tops or
whatever. I think the user would always be halting and appear nervous
or not in control of the material.
In my recollection of our oral argument activity in law school, I recall
that everyone was very well acquainted with the material before the
even. This means that if you had Braille or large print cards that you
could manage, you would certainly be able to move among them by that
time. However, there is an ease of use of the material that does not
come natural for everyone. I think gaining that would be more likely to
those who are comfortable with their reading medium.

Dan got it right! If you don't know Braille, you will have to memorize
stuff: cases, facts, etc. You will need to outline by memorization.
Braille would have served you a great deal if you knew how to read with
it.
Good luck!

Good afternoon,
I am a first year law student and next term will be doing a moot as part
of
my Oral Advocacy course. I am completely blind, but don't know braille.
Can anyone tell me what techniques they use to prepare and present an
oral
argument, without the use of braille?
Thank you,
Everett
