[blindlaw] JAWS and track changes

Word 2003 (and perhaps prior versions) has four modes for track changes,
Final showing markup, final, original, and original showing markup. Final
shows the changes after they have been applied. Original shows the original
text. Both final showing markup and original showing markup show text with
the proposed changes. You may toggle between the different versions by
selecting the appropriate menu on the track changes toolbar. I typically do
this by using the Jaws cursor and looking in the toolbar section for the
words "final showing markup" "final" "original" or "original showing
markup." Clicking on this pulls up a menu that you may use the up and down
arrows to scroll through to find the necessary mode.
In terms of reading the changes, the text is highlighted according to
preferences set by Word or by the editor. For example, my deletions are in
red with strike through as the attribute while my insertions are blue with
underline. Reading line by line or using say all will read the track
changes. For finer detail, the arrow keys may be used to discover the exact
changes. You may usually read the changes by using the "attributes and
colors" speech profile in the "speech and sounds" menu in the configuration
manager. Unfortunately, setting this profile sometimes requires Jaws to be
restarted in order to have the profile become active.
