Might it be ok to use a recorder?  Like one of those that can record on 
Compact Flash cards or with built-in memory chips for recording?  Usually, 
those files come in either MP3 or WMA formatted recordings and can be easily 
transferred over to a computer later?

And I know what you mean regarding the stylus.  I abandoned years ago.  I 
recall using it to coppy a whole book whilst in elementary school.  There 
were close to 150 pages of printed material.
