Michelle,

As a disclaimer, I am the sighted mother of a blind six year old.
Nevertheless, a few ideas . ..

If you want to break into special education, I can assure you that there
is a great need for child and parent advocates EVERYWHERE. Of course,
this might mean breaking out on your own. After my service as a judge's
law clerk, I opened my own practice and have been solo ever since. I
admit -- I did it out of necessity, not choice. Looking back, I would
have preferred to have some experience as an associate working in this
state (I went to law school in N.C.) However, I cannot now fathom going
into a firm situation. Even the idea of partnership is difficult for me
-- I'm too bossy and I like my freedom. Thus, I'm saying you may want
to consider solo practice -- but a good network with other practicing
attorneys will be quite useful. Your local and/or state bar could be
quite helpful in this regard.

Also, I believe that the president of NFB-Georgia is Mr. Anil Lewis,
Esquire. I don't know the extent or nature of his practice, but he
seems like a good man, and I think it's worth a call.

Of course, please feel free to contact me off-list if you choose.

Take care, and good luck,

Carlton
