[blindlaw] bulk scanners

Assuming the term "bulk scanner" means a scanner with a document feeder, I
have been very satisfied with HP scanners. If you use this scanner with
Scansoft, a software product made by Nuance, the result should be excellent.

Another option, which will depend upon your school's view of "reasonable
accommodation" is to have your books sent out for scanning by copy services
such as IKON. I had been reluctant to try this myself, because I thought it
might be too expensive. However, the price is reasonable, and the
turn-around time is quick. If you use this option, tell the copy service
that you want the material scanned into a readable PDF file, and then, when
you receive the CD, convert the output into a word document.

Subject: [blindlaw] bulk scanners

Hello all,

I'm getting ready to start law school and I'm planning to request a bulk
scanner. I'm wondering if any of you have advice on which bulk scanners you
do or do not recommend and for what reasons?
Thanks,
Deborah Byrne
