Dear Albert,
My advice is to first call your local courthouse. You will want to speak
with the court administrator and ask about court reporters in the area. It
is quite likely that your area has court reporters who work FOR the court as
well as some who are independent contractors.
I would first attempt to shadow the court-employed reporters. They have set
hours, are employed by the state, etc. After a bit of shadowing in this
arena, contact some independent reporters. They tend to work on a per-job
basis, usually for attorneys conducting depositions.
Good luck on your job-shadowing!!
Take care,
Carlton
