As the former Associate General Counsel for the Equal Employment
Opportunity Commission, the example you cited of "close vision" appears
non-job related and hence impermissible under the ADA. I would appreciate
it if you would let me know the name of the employer and the URL for its web
site. You can write off the listserve at Skloverlaw at gmail.com. I will see
what can be done.

Subject: [blindlaw] Jim McCarthy Question
Hello Jim,
I was looking for a job until last Wednesday when I was offered a position
as a law clerk with a private firm which I plan to take once all of the
assistive technology logistics are worked out. However, during my job
search, I ran across a county web page that had a litany of restrictive
requirements on job advertisements that did not seem to relate to the job
duties and description. For example, a drug counselor must have close
vision, why? Can you help me here?
Take care,
