Director, corporate counsel international: Responsibilities and
essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:
Leadership - identifies
and communicates key responsibilities and practices to ensure the
immediate team of direct reports promotes a successful attitude,
confidence in leadership,
and teamwork to achieve business results. Leads teams of legal
professionals. Supports the implementation of company programs,
procedures, methods, and
practices to promote Starbucks key messages and achieve a competitive
advantage. Planning and execution: Develops plans and schedules for
delivering training
to clients. Manages costs for outside legal counsel. Plans and manages
business unit/department processes and practices to ensure that programs
are aligned
with company business goals and objectives. Prepares, communicates, and
educates client groups and team on changes in policies and practices
within the
organization. Business requirements: Working collaboratively with
business development, finance, and tax colleagues to structure and
negotiate business
ventures. Coordinating work with outside counsel and internal clients.
Developing and delivering training on legal compliance to client groups.
Ensuring
that Starbucks complies with regulatory requirements and filings and
with corporate, commercial, and contractual obligations. Directly
drafting, and managing
outside counsel in drafting, complex agreements, including business
acquisition agreements, joint venture agreements, and license
agreements. Provides
clients with advice and counsel regarding legal requirements, best
practices, and strategies for managing risk in order to avoid
unnecessary legal risks,
negative publicity issues and litigation to advance the company's
mission statement. Partner development and team building: Challenges and
inspires partners
to achieve business results. Conducts and ensures the completion of
performance reviews. Ensures partners adhere to legal and operational
compliance requirements.
Oversees training and development of partners directly and indirectly
managed and makes effective staffing decisions. Provides coaching,
direction, and
leadership support to team members in order to achieve partner, business
and customer results. Provides support to managers to enable them to
adhere to
legal and operational compliance requirements. Experience: Experience in
general commercial, corporate, contracts, mergers, and acquisitions, a
strong
preference for significant international experience. At least 10 years
of relevant experience. Experience managing and coordinating legal and
business
professionals. Law firm and company legal department experience.
Required knowledge, skills and abilities: Ability to apply knowledge of
multidisciplinary
business principles and practices to achieve successful outcomes in
cross-functional projects and activities. Ability to achieve goals
through direct and
indirect influence and collaboration. International experience
preferred. Ability to think creatively and operate in an ambiguous,
fast-paced environment.
