MAJOR DUTIES:
You will serve as an impartial third party seeking to achieve harmony
and order
between parties regarding employment disputes. You will mediate all
types of
employment disputes involving laws under the jurisdiction of EEOC
including Title
VII, ADEA, EPA, and ADA, and related laws such as OWBPA. You will
mediate
disputes involving complaints of employment discrimination in the
Federal Sector
covered by Section 501 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as applied to
the
Federal Sector hearings program. As a Mediator, you will work with
individual
parties to understand the basic nature of the disputes, the issues
involved and
the positions of the various parties. You will determine actions or
basic
approaches to be taken based upon factual information and an analysis of
the
overall situation and its seriousness and/or complexity. You will use a
variety
of alternative dispute resolution techniques, provide parties with
resolution
options, and facilitate their interaction and successful resolution. As
a
mediator you will generate an atmosphere of trust and neutrality between
the
parties and all potential customers, maintaining complete
confidentiality as
required by mediation proceedings. You will provide consultation to
customers and
customers' organizations regarding the process of mediation as an
alternative to
administrative investigations. You will provide preventive mediation
designed to
improve overall day-to-day working relationships.
This positions is being announced simultaneously with EEOC Merit

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Applicant must meet specialized experience
described
below. This requirement is in accordance with the OPM Qualification
Standards

Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this
announcement.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: In order to be considered qualified, you must
demonstrate, in your resume and responses to questions, at least one
year of
specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level
mediating
employment disputes involving laws under the jurisdiction of EEOC
including Title
VII, ADEA, EPA, and ADA, and related laws such as OWBPA.

1959, must certify at the time of appointment that they have registered

RATING AND RANKING: You will be rated on the extent and quality of
experience,
education and training relevant to the duties of the position. All
eligible
applicants will receive a numerical rating based on their responses to
the
