JOB SUMMARY:
The U.S. Department of Education (ED) is looking for the best and
brightest to ensure equal access to education and to promote
educational excellence throughout the nation. If you are a highly
motivated, creative individual who would like to be involved in
establishing policies on federal financial aid for education, and
distributing as well as monitoring those funds; collecting data on
America's schools and disseminating research; focusing national
attention on key educational issues; and prohibiting discrimination
and ensuring equal access to education, ED is the place for you!
This position is located in the Informal Dispute Resolution Center,
Office of Hearings and Appeals at the U.S. Department of Education.
The incumbent performs duties that require a high level of expertise
in counseling and mediation as applied to a variety of disputes. In
performing these duties, the incumbent shall maintain strict
neutrality with respect to management and supervisory and non-
supervisory employees. He/she also ensures that all federal
personnel laws, regulations and Personnel Management Instructions
(PMI) are properly considered in resolving and processing employee
disputes. The Informal Dispute Resolution Center serves both the
Department of Education's headquarters and regional offices in the
pre-complaint processing of allegations of discrimination and
employee grievances. The incumbent may also be involved in the
resolution of disputes between the Department of Education and its
customers.
