[Blind-rollers] My Experiences

Hi Petra -- No, when I'm outside I always just depend on a sighted person to
push me. I am quite afraid of falling off steps and such, mainly because I
also have a brittle bone condition that makes me fracture bones very easily,
so even minor trauma can do me a lot of damage.
Speaking of fear of stairways, I got a private email from a woman who said
she herself wasn't interested in the list but was interested in passing the
info along as she knew a person who was blind and disabled who careened down
a flight of stairs and was killed, and there was question whether it was
suicide. I wrote back that stairways were a fear of anyone in that man's
condition, and even though I didn't know him personally, it was entirely
possible it was an accident. Very very sad if a suicide. I suppose part of
my reason for starting the list was to provide some kind of communication
between blind and disabled persons so that those who do happen to have a
depression problem can have someone understanding to talk to.
Anyway, thank you for your posts.

Hi Laura,

Do you use your feed outside to? And how can you gain some speed let's say
something like someone who is walking calmly. Even with my cane, I find it
hard to keep going. But the cane part is a skill I'd defenitly like to learn
better.

Best regards,
Petra
