Hi,

If you have already had a dog from GDB they will consider training you with another dog while using a wheelchair, but I don't think they will train somneone who is a wheelchair user and hasn't had a dog form them in the past. There are some other schools with a wheelchair program too. If you go to some of the websites you can find out which school are doing it. Schools seem to only train dogs to work with power chairs though. In my case I use a manual chair because I already had my dog and we just worked together on teaching her to guide me using it. The school knows about this and the head person at the school came to visit before oking it, but if I got a new dog I'd have to either use a power chair or try to find a trainer who could train a dog for me without going to a school. I can't use a cane anymore because I can't feel my arms and I really don't want to give up the strength that I do have in my arms by using a powerchair. It's a situation where I have to
choose between either using a power chair and loosing the strength I have and having to get someone to take care of me, or using a manual cahir and not being able to leave my apt. but being able to have the strength in my arms to take care of myself.

If I were you I'd seriously consider looking into getting another guide dog.

  Hello,
I've given some thought on getting another Guide Dog but this time
learning how to work the dog with my power chair.
This is something I'd like to learn more about.
