Hi, I agree--it is probably not true in most instances that a person would
run over someone's foot intentionally. The person in the chair should be
courteous and try to make amends, however--It's funny how people jump to
conclusions. I once was in the elevator at work facing the elevator door
inside the cabin, and I backed up to give the doors room to close. But there
was someone behind me that I ran into. This woman pipes up and says "That's
RUDE!!!!!". I had no intention of being rude. In fact, I didn't even know
she was there. I don't remember what I said, but it startled me more than
anything.

Subject: [Blind-rollers] disclaimer
Hi: This is Birdie. I am Kassie's mom. I am sighted,
but clumsy, and I have to say for all of us sighted
but poorly coordinated folks that we sometimes run a
wheelchair over other people's toes accidentally,
although you may think it is on purpose. Two
especially bad things happened when I was driving
Kassie's chair. Once, I was helping her through a
crowded area at a music festival and I not only ran
over a guys foot, but left the chair parked on it for
several moments before I realized it. The music was
so loud I couldn't tell what he was saying to me,
which must have been "get off my foot." More recently
I was driving her chair through a crowd at the NFB
Convention in Atlanta and I ran her into another
chair. At the same convention I accidentally clipped
an elderly lady's toes who was sitting on the front
row. Kassie always says she is the best driver, and
that is definitely true, even though I have vision to
help me navigate. She always drives herself and uses
her cane unless she is just too tired. So...on behalf
of those of us who have hit others, I'm really sorry
and will do better in the future, but I didn't do it
on purpose! I realize I can really hurt you. Peace to
all, Birdie
