Hello,
Talking about crashes.
One time at work, I was going along kind of slowly, because many
others were in the hallway at the same time, going in both
directions. When suddenly another blind person with a cane ran into
the back of my wheelchair.
And he said, I wish those blank people in wheelchairs would stay the
heck away from blind people.
The controller on my chair has a backup beep feature. And I had that
activated when the chair was ordered. So, I just put the chair in
reverse, but not enough to make it go backwards.
He said, "Oh explanative!" And he turned around to go away and he ran
into another person, not blind who was also in a wheelchair. And both
us chair users started laughing. Then he realized that I was one of
those darned wheelchair users.
He knew who I was by my laugh and said to me, "Sorry about my comment
about wheelchair users and blind people. But, he didn't apologize to
the lady in her chair. So she started giving him all kinds of grief.
By this time everyone in the hall, both students and staff, stopped
to watch and comment on the action.
Later the gal in the wheelchair came to my office and we had our own
little laugh over the incident. She told me that she was in a class
with him and he was really sorry about the way he expressed himself
regarding the little traffic jam.
Just a more humorous crash.
Of course, I think that we as blind wheelchair users need to be as
careful as we can. Especially when we are around other blind
pedestrians.
I think that all wheelchair users Blind or otherwise need to be
considerate of those around them. And of course, it works the other
way as well, non wheelchair users also need to be considerate. I
would have to say that one of the things that I have the biggest
concern about, is that of running into someone else and causing
injuries.
