TRAN T. KIM-TRANG: THE COMPLETE BLINDNESS SERIES1992 - 2006, 8 Videos
Opening Party: Saturday 26 April 7pm
Artist’s notes
In 1991, I conceived of The Blindness Series as an eight-tape project
to investigate physical blindness and its metaphors. Three reasons
motivated me: 1) a personal fear of vision loss; 2) blindness has been
a historical concern for many visual artists; and 3) I wanted to
explore the perceptual to conceptual process, which informs all that
we do.

I choose my friends because I believe it is better to cultivate a few
close friendships than to maintain many superficial acquaintances. One
of the artistic friends I met through blogging is Lloyd Bradbury. I am
sure he's no stranger to you because I often promoted his art blog

A disability identity as an entertainer and an artist is a really hard
thing to define in the US. If you are disabled - physically marred in
any way - it really goes against your chances in succeeding in the
entertaining "workplace". If you are not young, beautiful, perfectly
formed, or at least rich, your chances of success in the entertaining
business world start to languish. Despite your evident talent.
I am a disabled artist and jazz vocalist living in Chicago. I have
Epilepsy, Lupus and I am partially blind.

Visually-impaired artist proves you don't need sight to paint masterpieces
Fri, 18 Apr 2008 11:07p.m.
Several months after beginning a degree in visual arts, Mark Couzens
started to go blind. However, it turned out that was not enough to stop
him from pursuing his passion.
Mark Couzens splashes his paint through a perpetual fog.
He was diagnosed with rare angioid streaks three years ago, then six
months later, the bleeding between the retina and macula left him
legally blind.
