Banca del Monte di Lombardia, promotes the use of services,

arts and shows by differently able people, to help them improve

the quality of their lives and to offer people the opportunity

to meet and socialise.

Through the CINEMA WITHOUT BARRIERS project, in addition

to the launch of a film system featuring audio commentaries

for the blind and subtitles for the deaf, we aim to provide information

and training programmes on the enjoyment of art

for people suffering from a physical or sensorial disability.

We fully believe that relations among people must include

amusement, creativity and art; we also believe that it is important

to create a strong link between Italian and international

research works in the museum and educational fields,

as well as on how to grant access to the labour market.

This seminar aims to create awareness in the general public

by describing the state of the art of research and illustrating

some pilot schemes specifically designed for people who,

although experiencing diverse difficulties, can have access to

art and produce artworks successfully in a variety of ways.

“Se un non vedente improvvisamente riacquistasse

la vista, sarebbe in grado di

riconoscere un oggetto, in precedenza

conosciuto solo attraverso il tatto?”

Il quesito ha attraversato per anni il dibattito filosofico, da

Denis Diderot a Oliver Sacks ed ha sollecitato numerose ricerche

sulla percezione, l’arte, le diverse abilità.

Ricercatori e studiosi che da anni approfondiscono questi temi,

anche in considerazione dei nuovi scenari aperti dalle

nuove tecnologie, insieme ad operatori che organizzano mostre,

percorsi museali e laboratori dove non è la vista a condurre

l’esperienza artistica ed estetica, argomenteranno i vari

punti di vista, supportati dalle esperienze pratiche anche di

artisti che non hanno voluto considerare la loro disabilità

una “tragedia”, ma un punto di partenza per scoprire metodiche

differenti dal solito per fare arte.

Tante sono, infatti, le sfumature del sentire e del percepire colori,

suoni, forme, e dalle visioni e percezioni dei “diversamente

abili”, senza esclusione di artisti affetti da disagi psichici,

potranno nascere certamente curiosità, nuove comprensioni

e anche, ci si augura, progetti internazionali in

campo artistico.

be able to recognise an object that till

that moment he had managed to identify

only by touching it?”

This question has been a mainstay of philosophical debate for years,

from Denis Diderot to Oliver Sacks, and it has sparked much research

on perception, art and on different skills.

Different viewpoints will be debated by a number of researchers and

scholars who have been analysing this issue for years - also in the light

of the possibilities offered by the current, cutting edge technologies - as

well as by organizers of shows, museum exhibitions and workshops,

where sight is not used in the artist’s experience and aesthetics.

Artists who have never considered their disability as a “tragedy”, but

as a starting point to discover different ways of making artworks,

will also illustrate their practical experiences.

There are many different ways of hearing and perceiving sounds,

colours and shapes. We do hope that the visions and perceptions of

differently able artists, including those affected by psychic disabilities,

will arouse curiosity, promote a better understanding and spark off

international projects in the field of arts.

THE FIFTH SENSE: SENSORIAL PERCEPTIONS

BETWEEN ART AND VISION

La Provincia di Milano, con il sostegno della Fondazione

Banca del Monte di Lombardia, promuove la fruizione

di servizi, arte e spettacoli da parte dei diversamente abili,

per contribuire a migliorare la qualità della vita e per

dar vita a momenti di socializzazione aperti a tutti.

Con il progetto CINEMA SENZA BARRIERE, accanto al lancio

del sistema di film audiocommentati per non vedenti

e sottotitolati per non udenti, intendiamo intraprendere

un percorso di informazione e formazione sulla

fruizione di arte per le persone con difficoltà di movimento

o sensoriali.

Siamo convinti che la vita di relazione passi anche attraverso

il divertimento, la creatività, l’arte, e riteniamo

che sia importante connettere la ricerca italiana a quella

internazionale nell’area museale, educativa e di inserimento

nel mondo lavorativo “artistico”.

Con questo seminario vogliamo proporre un momento

divulgativo in cui presentare lo stato della ricerca e alcune

azioni pilota dedicate a coloro che, seppure con modalità

differenti, in considerazione delle loro particolari

condizioni di disagio, possono fruire dell’arte e produrla

direttamente con successo.
