[Arizona-students] Braille

Gabe, Ben and others,

I do totally agree that, at a blindness oriented conference such as VRate,
there's absolutely no excuse for there not to be Braille materials available
at every booth.

All the same, agreeing to Braille something for a bunch of blind people
usually takes a little more than someone's willingness to take
electronically provided materials and emboss them. You have at least the
following factors:

1. Wear and tear on the Braille embosser.
2. Conversion and translation may turn out to be quite time consuming.
3. Consumables, such as Braille paper, binders and other office supplies
must be purchased.

Besides these factors, if you want to do a "professional" transcription,
then this needs to be handled by a Library of Congress certified
transcriptionist, which certainly doesn't come cheap.

I'm afraidthat, in many cases, our expectations are just going to have to
match the realities we face.

Gabe,

I'm very proud of you for stepping up for Braille at VRate and
elsewhere. I
have an idea for you for 2008's VRate. Sign up to braille the programs.
Involve yourself in the assurance of Braille for your fellow blind
student.
Ben
