Hello everyone,

I hope your semester is getting off to a great start, and also that
you're getting excited about our 2007 state convention coming up on
September 7-9, 2007! There will be plenty of fun stuff to look forward
to at this convention, so read on for important reminders and
convention details.

You can save ten bucks by pre-registering before this Thursday--If you
haven't already, please fill out and mail in the attached
pre-registration form. If you pre-register for all the meals, it's
$80; of course, you can choose not to buy all the meals if you aren't
attending for the whole weekend. If you are a voc rehab client, even
if youve already been to a convention, talk to your counselor about
getting a voucher to pay for your expenses.

Hotel rooms are filling up, but talk to me or Bob Kresmer if you still
want to reserve a room or if you want to join a room with other
people.

Here's a brief run-down of the convention schedule with special notes
for students:

Thursday night: People will begin checking in to the hotel (located at
2100 S. Priest Dr. near Broadway in Tempe)

Friday morning: There will be a seminar for parents of blind
children--if you think your parents might be interested in
attending/helping organize a parents' division, bring them along!
Also, we're possibly expecting some younger kids and we'd like to
gather up a group of students to look after/entertain/mentor them
while their parents are in the meeting. So if you like kids, or even
if you don't but have games, toys, or books to donate, please let me
or Bob know.

Friday afternoon--There will be a student seminar from 1:30 p.m. to
4:00 p.m. covering topics such as preparation for employment,
training, technology, job experience and vocational rehabilitation.
Please join us! If you want to vote in the AABS election and haven't
updated your dues for this year, please pay before this seminar starts
or immediately after it ends.

5:15-7:00 p.m. There will be a pizza party for all students and any
non-students who have volunteered to serve as mentors--stay posted for
room location. The party is mainly for those of you who have never
attended a state convention, as well as for students who have already
been to convention and can show you the ropes or answer any other
questions.

8:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m. There will be a social event for everyone at
the convention--come to meet people in your NFB chapter or blind
professionals in your field of study.

Saturday: There will be a large-group session for the whole
convention--one in the morning from 9:00-noon and again in the
afternoon from 2:00-5:00. Will include updates from the NFB national
office, voc rehab, NewsLine, the Youth Slam, and other information and
talks about transition and employment.

In the afternoon from noon-2:00 will be a breakout session for
students--This is when we will hold our annual elections and other
business. Come with ideas for how we can improve the organization
and/or questions that you may have about getting involved.

Saturday night, 7:00-10:00 -- Banquet with a speech from our national
representative, Scott LaBarre, and scholarship and award
presentations. Stick around for some student socials after the banquet
(location TBA).

Sunday morning -- There will be a breakfast and a morning session for
affiliate business.

So, feel free to come to the whole convention or just a day, or just a
half-day--We're excited to see you!

Bob Kresmer is the state president and can answer most
convention-related questions; email him at
krezguy at cox.net

See you at convention!

Cheers
Arielle
