Hot Job of the Week
Civil Engineer: Department of Transportation, Federal Highway Administration
Would you like to use your engineering skills to address import issues
facing
the country? Would you like to gain valuable work experience, experience
that
will be respected by many employers? Then this may be the opportunity for
you!
You will participate in the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA’s)
24-month
Professional Development Program.
· You will learn about the technical, administrative, and program
management aspects of highway engineering in the agency.
· You may be assigned to a range of different offices including an FHWA
office, other DOT modal agencies, and other Federal, State or local
agencies
or private industry partners.
· You will be given several developmental assignments, giving you the
opportunity to broaden your engineering experience and concentrate in a
technical discipline in line with both your interests.
· Developmental assignment options may include the following: design,
construction, environment, safety, pavements, materials, ITS, bridge,
traffic
operations, hydraulics, preventive maintenance, access management utilities
and
R/W, planning, surveys, geotechnical, and/or value engineering.

COOL Internship of the Week
Intern: Department of State
Would you like to serve your country while getting an inside
look at the different types of positions available in foreign affairs? Would
you like to gain valuable work experience that will help you in virtually
every
endeavor? Then this may be the opportunity for you!
You will be a student intern with the department of state.
You
will have the opportunity to designate your top two locations and positions
for your posting, and about half a year you could be off on a great
adventure!
In your position as student intern you may:
· Do research on political, economic, environmental or other issues.
· Write reports and correspondence.
· Use your expertise in information systems, procurement or budget and
fiscal operations.
· Help to organize a conference or visit of high-level officials.
· Write news stories, work on web pages or help produce electronic
journals.
· Work on educational and cultural exchange activities.
· Help in the recruiting of U.S. speakers and specialists for overseas
programs.
Interns with scientific and technical backgrounds might work
with issues such as arms control, genetically modified organisms (GMO's),
infectious diseases, and remote sensing.
Requirements: You must be a
· United States Citizen
· Full or part-time college or university junior, senior, or graduate
student.
Salary: The majority of all internships are unpaid. A limited number of
PAID internships may be available to students who can demonstrate financial
need.
Location: U.S. Embassies and consulates worldwide. (There are also a number
of positions in State Department headquarters in Washington, DC).
Application Deadline: March 1, 2007 for a Fall Semester 2008 internship
(Sept or Oct 2008-Dec 2008). For Spring Semester: July 1, 2007. For a
summer
internship: November 1, 2007.
