Hi all,

Does anyone have some tractor-feed Braille paper lying around that they haven't opened? If so, perhaps we can donate it; if not, we can talk about other options.

Arielle

Hello everyone,

I received this a couple of weeks back and have unfortunately delayed in
its dissimination. If your division can lend assistance, or if you know of
a group willing to provide said assistance, I'm sure the teacher would be
most appreciative. The mission sounds worthy of our attention.

To Whom It May Concern:

Greetings! I am a teacher of the blind and visually impaired. This coming
September, I will be moving to Kumasi, Ghana to teach 12 blind students at
Wesley College (a teacher-training college). Last year (in a landmark
decision) the College admitted 12 blind students to the College for the
first time. My job will be to teach the science and math courses to the
blind students. Up until now, they have not been able to participate in
these courses as they only have slate and styluses to use. However, I have
managed to collect from very generous donors: 13 new braillewriters, a
braille printer (which will allow me to print lessons from MSWord), braille
books and braille paper (for the braillewriters).

Now, all that is needed to make the program successful is about 10 boxes of
tractor-feed braille paper for the braille printer. This special paper is a
crucial item because it would allow me to print multiple copies of lessons
from my computer, rather than brailling 12 separate lessons from my
braillewriter. The price of 1 box of braille paper for the special printer
cost about $50. I anticipate needing about 5-10 boxes, which would last
about one to two years.

After graduating, the blind students will be sent to the coca growing
regions of western Ghana, where they will teach regular sighted students.
If this new teaching-training program for the blind at Wesley College is
successful, other blind students will be able to follow suit, and most
importantly will become independent, tax-paying members of society!

I will be leaving for Ghana by mid-September; however as shipping to Africa
is slow, I hope to order everything by the end of July. If your organization
would like to kindly donate to this important cause, please call me ASAP:

Also, for more information on the blind students in Ghana, please go to the

Thank you for your time; I hope to hear from you soon.

Sincerely,

Wendy Olson,

Teacher of the Blind and Visually Impaired
