Dear lists:
By now, I think it fair to assume there is a fair idea of who will be participating in this year's Washington Seminar.
If you have previously attended Washington Seminar and would like the opportunity to serve as a resource to newcomers, the National Association of Blind Students would like to recruit you as one of our mentors. Introductions to the National Federation of the Blind and its legislative efforts can sometimes feel overwhelming, and as a mentor, you would be in the unique position to help our first time visiting students to feel better acquainted with the organization and the workings of Washington Seminar. You will by no means be expected to hover over our guests, and I am confident they themselves would not appreciate such treatment, but it is always comforting to know that a friendly peer is only a phone call away.
Conversely, students attending Washington Seminar for the first time are encouraged to contact us so that we may pair you up with someone who can share of their experiences. Even if you have previously attended a national convention, you may find the atmosphere to be a little different, and it is the hope of our NABS president, his board and the organization at large to make your visit to the Hill a pleasant one.
Please contact me off list if interested in participating. Predictably, the number of one group may outweigh the other, but no doubt time will be found for everyone to get to know some of your fellow students with whom you have grown familiar. We look forward to seeing you at our student seminar, marking the beginning of what will no doubt be an instructive and entertaining week.
Sincerely,
Joe Orozco, Membership Chair
