Hi all,
The AABS constitution cautions us to be not "merely a social
organization" and to actively work to promote opportunities for blind
students. That said, as long as we include educational programming as well
as socials, I think socials play an important role in recruiting members and
building camaraderie and networking. We traditionally hold one summer and
one winter social, just like some of the NFBA chapters. This summer, I will
probably not be in Arizona and so will not be hosting the summer social like
I did for the past two years. Therefore, we should consider Sunsplash or
another water park as a possible fun destination. In addition, I have asked
Paul Ruffner to consider planning a social for students in the Prescott area
if he is home during the summer. The board will decide on the summer social
in April, but we would welcome any suggestions from you guys, so let's keep
the discussion going.

Also, please continue to post fund-raising ideas to the list, especially
if you have contacts. Our fund-raising chair is Melissa Cordell, who can be
reached at
tonysohl at extremezone.com
Let her know if you want to be on the fund-raising committee and/or if you
have ideas. Fund-raising will also be on the agenda for our Sunday night
board meeting, which is open to the membership. If you want to come to the
board meeting or contribute to the agenda, please email me off-list at

Good discussions, everyone! Keep it up!

Arielle Silverman
President, AABS
