Hi, students! I wanted to remind everyone to consider coming to the 2005 NFB national convention in Louisville, Kentucky, from July 2-8. As always, this convention will be extremely fun, inspiring, and informative. You will be able to attend the meetings of NFB divisions related to your interests, meet and purchase items from vendors of blindness technology, network with other blind students, listen to President Marc Maurer's banquet address, and much, much more!

One suite at the main hotel is already reserved for girls and another for guys, so if you are planning to come and want to room with other students, please let me know. I will also give you the flight number for the nonstop flight that we will be using (priced at around $360 round-trip). We would love to fly with you, but you can, of course, take a different flight with layovers if that is more affordable. The hotel costs $59 per night per room, plus a tax of about 14%. That adds up to approximately $538 per room for the eight-night stay of the convention; however, this cost can be split by up to four roommates.

Funding for the convention is available from the Arizona Association of Blind Students and is most likely also available from the NFB of Arizona. If you want to go, a lack of funds should not stop you. Please let me know that you want to go, whether you have been to a prior national convention, and the amount of money that you are able to spend on your own toward the convention. These "applications" for funds will be accepted until the end of May, at which time our available funds will be distributed to those applicants with the greatest need (first-time convention attendees will also get priority). Please also notify Ruth Swenson, the NFBA president
(480-649-3044)
if you need funding. There is a national scholarship that you can apply for to get some funding for convention. This program, called the Jernigan Fund, is run by Allen Harris
(harris.allen at blind.state.ia.us)
The official deadline for applications is tomorrow, but the deadline may be extended, so please let Ruth know if you would like to apply for NFBA and/or national NFB funding (she needs to write a letter on your behalf when you apply for the national scholarship).

The AABS is planning some fun activities for us to interact with other blind students at convention this year, so I hope that many of you will attend. Hope everyone is having a good semester!
