Subject: Phoenix Children's Hospital - VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Dear Community Volunteers,

We may never be sure if it is going to rain or not, but we can be sure that
there will be a PCH event right around the corner! We are in desperate need
of hundreds of volunteers over the next few months so we are inviting you to
share this email with your friends, family, and neighbors in order to rally
support for the Valley's only free-standing children's hospital. Looking to
dress up and run a silent auction? Check out Beach Ball 2005. Want to run
around with kids in a water-safe environment? Check out Water Watchers
Safety Day 2005! Have a love for interior design? Check out the Arizona
Foothills Magazine Design Show House 2005! There is so much in store for
volunteers of all ages. Check it out today!

NEW EVENTS - OOH AHH!!!

Beach Ball 2005 -This Saturday night!!!
http://www.phoenixchildrens.com/support/beachball2005.html
What: Travel to Brazil and the beaches of Rio De Janeiro. Enter a tropical
paradise as you shop at exclusive boutiques down the streets of Rio, dine at
the finest Latin restaurants and dance into the night. Phoenix Children's
Hospital's 12th annual Beach Ball promises to be an evening of fun with live
music, dinner and dancing, live auction and raffle. The evening will be
spiced up with a complete Brazilian theme. Guests don beach-wear to
ball-wear attire, feast on flavorful food, listen to the sounds of Shining
Star, and dance the night away.
Why: In years prior, Beach Ball has collectively raised more than $6 million
for the hospital. All proceeds earned this year will go to the areas of the
hospital with the greatest need, benefiting vital initiatives and programs
such as the construction of a new Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, the
expansion of the Bone Marrow Transplant Program and growth of the Pediatric
Subspecialty Medical Group.
When: 20 volunteers are needed on February 26, 2005 from 4pm-Midnight to
help run the silent auction with everything from monitoring the items, to
answering questions about the items, to delivering the items to the bidders
at the end of the night!
Where: The Arizona Biltmore Resort and Spa/Frank Lloyd Wright Foyer 6000
East Camelback Road, Scottsdale

DNA Lifeprint Child Safety Day

What: A full day of fun and safety demonstrations for children of all ages.
The day will be filled with activities, child safety tips, home samples and
more!
Why: DNA LifePrint(tm) was developed by Joe Matthews a 30-year police
veteran and former supervisor in charge of the Miami Beach Homicide
Division. After his lead detective work on the nationally-publicized "Baby
Lollipop" case and Adam Walsh case, Matthews came to the realization that we
are able to obtain an entire history or track a stolen motor vehicle yet
unable to identify or trace a missing or abducted child. The DNA Lifeprint
Child Safety Day is meant to cover all aspects of safety including fire
safety, dog bite prevention, weapon safety, and more!
When: 6 volunteers are needed on March 12, 2005 from 9:45AM - 2:30PM to do
water safety pledges, the injury prevention duck game, bicycle Helmut
coloring, face painting and more!
Where: The Outlets at Anthem - 4250 W. Anthem Way Anthem, AZ 85086
Maricopa County Home and Landscape Show

displays for interior design, Helmut, building, and landscaping! To see a
copy of this year's exhibit list, click on the following link
http://www.phoenixhomeshow.com/List_Exhibits.htm. To get in free - sign up
to volunteer now!
Why: A select group of extraordinary builders and interior designers from
the show will be creating play houses that will be on display at the Home
Show and available for auction. All proceeds from the auction benefit the
Phoenix Children's Hospital.
When: 4 volunteers are needed at each shift on 4/29 (9:30-1:30, 1:00-5:00,
4:30-8:30) and 4/30 (4:30-8:30) to pass out information about the hospital,
the houses, and maintain the bid sheets as people walk by. You will get a

April Pools Day
What: A day long water safety event for families at the Stapley Aquatic
Complex in Mesa. Learn water safety techniques and swim. Other activities
include water safety games and other safety related activities. Sponsored in
part by Phoenix Children's Hospital.
Why: Drowning is the number one cause of death in children under five and
the second leading cause of unintentional injury-related death for children
between the ages of one and 14. Surprisingly, most child drowning deaths do
not occur on lakeside vacations or boating trips on the high seas -- but
right in a familiar backyard.
When: 8 volunteers are needed on April 8, 2005 from 8am to 1:30pm to read
water safety books to children, do handprint and water safety pledges and
play the duck water safety game with kids. Bilingual speakers encouraged but
not required!
Where: The event will be held outdoors at the Peoria Sunrise Mountain Pool
located at 21231 N. 86th Drive in Peoria.

Sixth Annual Water Watchers Safety Day
What: Valley Toyota Dealer's Water Safety Day, presented by SRP Safety
Connection is a community-wide event in which Valley children learn about
water safety through exciting hands-on activities. The event is put on by
Water Watchers at Phoenix Children's Hospital, and has grown in reputation
and community support to become a one-of-a-kind experience, known throughout
the Southwestern United States. Among the activities traditionally present
will be -
Actual water safety demonstration shows, showing water safe behaviors,
rescue simulations, and rules to follow in the home
Special Build-A-Reminder workshops with originating sponsor of the activity,
The Home Depot, which will allow children to take home reminders of the
lessons they've learned
A firefighter music safety show teaching children all forms of safety,
including drowning prevention
A hands-on tour of multiple safety vehicles including fire trucks,
helicopters, ambulances, and safety houses
Phoenix Mercury Players acting as tour guides for children
Children's water safety booths with hands-on games and learning activities
Why: The results of this exciting event are far reaching in Maricopa County,
a community plagued by one of the highest child drowning rates in the
nation. Through the children's education and the media focus upon the event,
which is expected to be stronger than ever, the entire community has an
increased awareness of this silent killer, and the ways to prevent future
tragedies.
When: 200 Volunteers are needed on Tuesday, March 29th from 8am-2pm to staff
water booths, transport goody bags and lunches, be lead and assistant tour
guides for the school groups, help with set up and clean up of the event,
help with passing out lunches, and help the kids get on and off of the
buses. Water Watchers Safety Day is a busy, busy day and we need you to help
our kids have a FUN and SAFE time!
Where: The event will be held outdoors, indoors, and under tents at the
South Mountain Community College located on 24th Street and Baseline in
