If you need ideas for ways to solicit readers at college, read on! This was
for a lab assistant, but the same process can easily be applied to getting
readers.

Allison,
I've had to take both geology and biology classes that involved lab components. I paid the thirty dollars or so and took out a classified ad in my school's student newspaper for three days. (I strategically chose Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday since Friday's paper remains online on Saturday and Sunday, thus increasing the chance that more people would see it)  The ad had three lines (mainly because that's all I could afford and still maintain my extravagant Top Ramen/Tuna Helper lifestyle.)
Biology Lab Assistant Needed
Tuesdays 7:30-9:30 PM, pays $7.50 an hour
Interested? Please contact Stacy at 1-900-Stacy4U or email mailto:cerv0027 at umn.edu cerv0027 at umn.edu

As you will notice, I didn't mention that this had anything to do with blindness because I didn't want to scare anybody away from applying. When people called, I just said, "Oh, thanks for calling. Why don't I explain a little about what this will entail?" I actually had many more applicants than I thought I would get; I made a great choice; and it only costed me fifteen dollars a week. (Or fifteen boxes of Tuna Helper.)
For me, this arrangement worked out great. DSS wasn't involved; I had an assistant; and I passed both classes.
