Hi again all!
I wanted to write a longer message introducing myself, but I didn't want to
cram it all into one small hello type post. This way, one can read further
if you want to know more about me, or simply delete this and move on. So,
here's a little more about me, but I warn you, it will likely ramble a bit.
I would also love hearing some about each of you. I met a couple of you at
national convention, but unfortunately none of us got to talk for any length
of time. So,
go ahead and intro yourself
if you like, I really look forward to getting to know everyone.
I moved here from Detroit in mid October. I am currently living in Peoria.
I moved with my family because my dad got a job out here. I've visited this
area many times growing up because I have many relatives in Phoenix. I've
always loved it, and wanted to live here. Suddenly, even though the chance
came up at a kind of inconvenient time of my life, just before senior year,
I jumped for the chance anyway.
In January I will be attending Arizona State West. I'm a senior, I think.
I was one back in Michigan, but with the transfer, my credits are a little
crazy. They've taken nearly a month to finish my transcript review, and I'm
still waiting on the final verdict as to which classes may have transferred
and how.
I am a Women's Studies major. That said, I'll try and answer the question
that I am always asked after I mention this area of study. Someone on here
is bound to be thinking it anyway. What does one do with a women's studies
major? My answer, go to grad school. OR at least that's what I plan to do.
My goal is to work in the education field. I was an elementary ed major
until moving here to AZ. The ed certification requirements are so different
here that I would be in undergrad for much longer than I already am going to
be. Women's Studies was my next area of interest since I am very active in
various women's issue-related organizations. I have a grad school program
already picked out in Louisiana. It's a Teacher of Blind Children program
that I've wanted to go to since high school. I plan to do this still
unless, I change my mind, and do find something in the women's studies field
that I would like to pursue.
I've been in the NFB since I was a little kid and my parents were involved
in the NFB state Parent's of Blind Children group. For four years I was the
president of Michigan's student division, called MABS. I am currently the
secretary of the national student division, NABS. I'm really excited
because I've just joined the Phoenix chapter of the NFB of AZ, and I
attended my first meeting last month.
That's about all I have at the moment. Again, I am happy to be a part of
AABS, and I can't wait to get to know everybody better.
Always,
Allison
P. S. Sorry I missed the AABS christmas party!
