He can go from being a GOOD DOG to being "a BAD BAD DOG" in less than a heartbeat: the blink of
an eye!
He knows that I keep attractive food items: some more so than others: in containers with clip-on
lids, and these clips usually, but not always as the following will demonstrate make the contents
unavailable to him. The times when they do become so are when I have, in a moment of distraction
or: "Oh no! say it isn't so!!!" advancing senile forgetfulness, left the clip on the side that he
can get at up rather than down.
The two containers that are of, particular interest to him are the bin that I keep his biscuits in
and the plastic box that I keep my brown sugar in. I am very careful to keep both clips down as he
has emptied both, my sugar box and his biscuit barrel on, at least one occasion
Today, it was the sugar box in which I had just put a kilo [2 pounds 2 ounces] of sugar: It is
several months since I have, inadvertently, left that near side clip up, but he lives in
hope/anticipation because he knows" that one day, be it tomorrow or many tomorrows in the future,
if he persist in checking, he is bound to find the clip up and, with his nose, he can lift the lid
and the clip, on the far side, will come adrift.
I did not know of his theft until I found the lid on the table and an empty box on the floor, so it
is short rations for him till the sugar rush, of which he shows no signs, has run its course.
