Hi Zack,
I went out on USDA.gov and put in " animal identification systems " in the
search field. There seemed to be some interesting things. Check there as
well.

Subject: [Ag-eq] Animal Identification
Hello all,
I was wondering if anyone had some experience with low or high tech animal
identification systems. My farm has approximately 200 head dairy cattle,
(adults and replacements), a 20 head beef herd, and a 20-30 head sheep
flock. One of my challenges has been that I've never been able to identify
animals for treatments, even though over the years I've proven one of the
better laborers at spotting things.
I know with radio frequency identification tags you can get information to
be sent to a smart phone, but there's more than one system out there and I
wondered if someone was using one. Other suggestions, perhaps less high tech
would be welcome too.
Zac
