Those of you who have been following my, occasional, entries over the past year will have come to
know my errant rabbit, Peter.
During the year, he had evaded all manner of threats upon a rabbit's life, mostly in the form of
cats and dogs: my own being no exception. When I had 2 rabbits, they had escaped from their
bedroom and Guideon caught, killed and eat Peter's companion, but Peter, himself, got clean away.
I am distressed to tell you that his run of luck came to an end yesterday, and, yes, Guideon was,
directly, responsible but not in the way you, perhaps, expect.
As I was expecting some workmen here, I had Guideon in the house, but the workmen left so I let G
back into the yard. However, they returned without my knowledge and G who was still in the yard,
got through one of the security gates that I always have closed to keep him away from the rest of my
animals to whom he represents a real threat.
When I found that he was missing, I was in a real panic, not knowing where he had gone. I had one
of the men check the sheep but they were quite settled, so I relaxed a little.
After whistling for him and hearing him barking somewhere, near at hand, I resumed my search, but
could still not find him, but, before too long, he turned up.
I tied him up again and went down to take Peter out of his night time apartment and put him out for
the day, but I found him dead.
What must have happened was that when Guideon got through the security gate, he had gone to the barn
where Peter's apartment was.
There wasn't a mark on peter and I am sure that Guideon hadn't been able to get into the apartment,
though, he would have tried, and that would have been sufficient to give Peter a heart attack and
he, simply, died of fright!
Later in the day, I was talking to someone and told her my idea of what had happened. Tracy said
that she had lost 2 rabbits under, almost, identical circumstances.
