the purpose of Stylist is for writers to
share resources and techniques of writing, but it's also for the purpose of networking and promoting the ideals of NFB and the Writers' Division.
The Writers Division of the National Federation of the Blind was founded in 1982 so that writers would have a place to hang their hats during division meetings, with the purpose of encouraging blind writers to develop their skills. Although Slate & Style is a writers' magazine, our writers develop their craft for all forms of creative expression, including but not limited to educating the sighted public about blindness. We hope to put out an anthology (our third) in the near future, and encourage contributions.
Email, tape, braille and large print editions of Slate & Style are available with yearly membership in the division of $10. For more information, email

There will also be occasional posts concerning issues of major importance to the blind on this list, as well as announcements concerning activities of the National Federation of the Blind.
